Ronald Mobley

Ronald Mobley

Ronald Wayne Mobley, PhD., age 62, died suddenly Thursday, October 9 2014. Ron was born July 23, 1952 in Raleigh, NC, son of Sam and Rachel Mobley. He attended ECU but his undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees were from NCSU. Ron relished his role in teaching nursing and was a well-respected community college professor.

He loved his dogs and was kind and helpful to anyone in need. He was known for his tall storytelling, which was frequently embellished yet true at its core, based on his vast travels and wild adventures. Ron Mobley was truly one of a kind. He had a love for skulls, hawk’s claws, bugs, snakes, Mexican masks, Scientific American, far away cultures, rock and roll, and the bizarre.

Ronnie and Danny Brock and I often met between our homes along Crabtree creek. The area between the "little store" aka Suburban Market (on Anderson by the bridge) and JY Joyner was our fantasy forest land. Ronnie's dad drove a Rambler Classic, a rather funky looking auto that today would be a real collector's item. The three of us spent many hours swinging on vines and getting wet in the creek, pretending to be Robin Hood or some other fantasy character.

I'm very sorry he won't be with us.
